Polygon’s Matic token has become one of the most popular cryptocurrencies and many investors have expressed an interest in it. The MATIC token can be stored and transacted on Metamask which is a popular wallet option.
However, before using Metamask to buy MATIC, you will need to first install and create an account on Metamask. How to Add Polygon Network to Metamask
Create a wallet as explained in the guide above or import an existing account by entering your password. Then, head over to the network section and select add network.
It will open a new window as shown below. Now add the following settings for the MATIC network in the relevant tabs (already filled in the screen below).
- Network Name: Polygon
- New RPC URL: https://polygon-rpc.com
- ChainID: 137
- Symbol: MATIC
- Block Explorer URL: https://polygonscan.com/
These settings should be filled exactly the same and we suggest you copy-paste to prevent errors.
Once done, you should be able to see the MATIC token added to your Metamask wallet. Transactions on the Polygon chain will require MATIC tokens.
How to buy MATIC on UniSwap using Metamask
You can use Metamask to purchase MATIC on any decentralized exchange (DEX) directly. Some of the most popular DEX options include Uniswap and SushiSwap. To do that, you will need to visit the Uniswap site. To learn more about Uniswap and to register an account, click here. The steps are similar for other DEXs.
Click on the Launch app button to head over to the Uniswap DEX as shown below.
Then, click on the connect wallet option to link your Metamask wallet and Uniswap to access it. Grant any permission when asked for and click next. Remember to switch the network back to Ethereum mainnet since Uniswap is an Ethereum-based exchange. You can shift back to the Polygon network and view your MATIC tokens once the transaction is complete.
Select a suitable currency pair, for example, USDT/MATIC as shown below, and enter the amount of USDT that you would like to use for purchasing MATIC tokens.
Review and then click on Swap and complete the purchase. The MATIC tokens will reflect automatically in your Metamask wallet. Select the Polygon network from the dropdown menu and view the MATIC tokens to check and verify if the transaction was successful.
