The popular memecoin Shiba Inu recently announced via a tweet the expansion of SHIB ecosystem, in the form of a metaverse project codenamed ‘Shiberse.’
The team behind Shiba Inu (SHIB), the memecoin which is the biggest Dogecoin (DOGE) competitor in the market today, recently announced its plan of launching a metaverse project codenamed ‘Shiberse.’
Metaverse is the new buzzword in the crypto and blockchain industry. The term has been further popularised by Mark Zuckerberg who announced Facebook’s rebranding as Meta late last year, and detailed the company’s vision of creating a new version of the internet, in metaverse.
In a tweet dated Jan 24, 2022, Shiba Inu’s official Twitter handle announced and threw light on the project’s details. There’s no confirmation yet how Shiberse will be related to the Shiba Inu game which had been codenamed Oshiverse earlier.
As can be inferred, the Shiberse promises to be an immersive experience for the Shiba ecosystem. Since the tweet features a Shiba Inu dog in a jungle, holding a hammer in its mouth, it can be speculated that the metaverse may offer various building elements, or perhaps even Land NFTs, as is the case in other popular metaverses like Axie Infinity.
Shiba Inu holders were seen questioning if ‘Shiberse’ was the best choice as the project’s name, to which Shytoshi Kusama, the project lead replied that Shiberse isn’t the final name, and has been chosen temporarily to steer clear of any scams.
Another tweet from the Shiba Inu account, on Jan 26, updated that they’ll be revealing the metaverse’s official name in the days to follow.
Specifics and the possible release date
Shytoshi Kusama further highlighted on the Shiba Discord server that they’re now competing with big organisations like Walmart, Facebook etc. which are actively working on their own metaverses. Eric M, a well-known Shiba developer explained and threw more light on the project stating that it will be a place where ShibaSwap, Shiba game, tokens, community and everything else related to the memecoin will meet together.
No specific release date has been shared for the Shiberse project yet, however, it’s expected to go live in 2022, as shared in the official tweet above. This implies that it’ll be launched ahead of the Shiba Inu game which is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2023. Having said that, it is all subject to change. Referring to its possible release date, Eric M said on the Shiba Discod that they’ll keep the community updated via more news in the coming weeks/days.
